Indian Railway Train Ticket Status:

After successfully booking your IRCTC Train ticket, Check your PNR Status on mobile and WhatsApp. PNR status of your tickets tells you the tickets’ status- whether it is confirmed or waitlisted.

Different status of IRCTC Train Ticket:

1.Confirmed Train Ticket

If you get this as your status, then you are good to go. Confirmed PNR Status means that your train ticket is confirmed. You will be allotted a seat/berth in the train.

2.RAC or Reservation Against Cancellation

This implies that your train ticket is not confirmed but you can board the train. To put it simply, you can board the train and will also be given a seat to sit. The berth will be shared by other RAC passengers. If other passengers cancel or do not board the train, then you will be allotted the full berth.

3.WL or Waitlist

This means that you are in the line to get train tickets. Waitlist tickets are not confirmed train tickets. You are not allowed to board the train and will not be given a seat to sit. However, if any passengers cancel their tickets, then you will be allotted a train ticket (RAC or confirmed).

But chances of this happening are very less and hence we recommend all train travellers to purchase Railofy’s Travel Guarantee. This helps you get protection against WL and RAC train tickets. If your train ticket does not get confirmed after charting, you will get cashback up to Rs 3000 in your bank account, which can be used to buy tickets of alternate mode of transport. Railofy helps you secure your trip!

The different seat types of found in IRCTC Trains

Indian Railways offers different seat types or classes for its travellers. These seats can be categorised into Air Conditioned Coaches and Non- Air Conditioned Coaches.

Air Conditioned (AC) in Indian Railways

In terms of pricing , the tickets in non-AC are cheaper as compared to the AC class. Here , the facilities and seats are more comfortable and cleaner. There are four types of seats in this category

1. Air-Conditioned Executive Chair Class or (EC)

The AC executive class, also known as AC chair class, is not present in all trains. You can find this class in trains like Tejas Express, Gatimaan Express and Shatabdi Express. The carriage is designed to ensure privacy and space. In this class, food and drinks are Free of Charge, that is included in ticket price.

2.Air-conditioned first class or  (1AC)

It is the most comfortable and private sleeper class on the train. It consists of 2-berth or 4-berth sleeper compartments, with lockable doors. The compartments are spacious and clean, well maintained. 1AC is also the most expensive of all classes.

3. Air-conditioned 2-tier class or (2AC)

The air-conditioned 2-tier class is a popular choice for long-distance trains in India. There are two upper berths and two lower berths in each compartment, and there are two side berths (one lower and one upper) across the aisle, on the other side of each compartment. There are no private compartments or washrooms. However, curtains are provided for the purpose of separation.

4. Air-conditioned three-tier class or (3AC)

AC 3-tier class is a great option for those who want to travel in style and comfort. The compartment has 6 berths that can be arranged in various ways, depending on what you prefer. This is the most affordable option for AC Class. In this, there are two berths each – upper, middle and lower. The middle berth can be folded during the day, to ensure more space. This berth does not have much privacy as curtains are not there.

Non-Air Conditioned in Indian Railways

These train seats are cheaper and more affordable as compared to AC class. Here’s the different types of Non-AC present in trains

1.First Class (FC)

This has a very similar layout to AC first class. Here, the berth composition is the same with lockable compartments. The only difference is that there is No-AC and other facilities like blankets, pillows and more are chargeable.

2.Sleeper Class (SL)

This is very similar to AC Tier 3 Class. Facilities such as blankets and pillows are not free. You can purchase this or better carry your own. This seating option is the best for people on a tight budget.

3.Second Class (2S)

This is one of the cheapest options, where there are our benches or passengers to sit. In the reserved category, passengers are allotted fixed seats. The carriage is stuffy as it is non-AC.

In the unreserved category, there are no fixed allot seats. People sit wherever they like. People without tickets sit/sleep on the floor. This carriage is noisy and full of people.
